Serving Our Neighbours

Nursing Home Ministry

This ministry links up NBUC people with neighbours who reside in nursing homes. The NBUC team provides worship for residents as well as friendship and visits on special occasions.

Snow-shovelling Teams

Our snow-shovelling teams stand at the ready for snow-not to ski, but to provide free snow-shoveling for people in Brampton who are too frail or too ill to shovel their own sidewalks and driveways. Referrals come from people we know and from the city. It's a terrific way to stay fit. If there's no snow, it's back to the gym!

Clothing Exchange

Twice-a-year, NBUC organizes a clothing exchange to provide clothing and small items that people need at no cost. It's our own recycling project, organized for our neighbours who find it a struggle to manage the high cost of clothing a family. Contributions of clean clothing in good condition and of small household goods are welcome on the Friday before each event. A team of volunteers organizes the contributions and manages the sales.

Sandwich Run

The Sandwich Run is a regular event that gives youth and their families a chance to reach out to street people. People pack bag lunches at the church and then travel to Toronto to meet some of the street people served by a Christian ministry to homeless people.

Christmas Caring and Sharing

Each December the congregation provides Christmas for between 20 to 50 Brampton families, many of whom are dealing with challenging disabilities and long-term illness. The congregation supplies Christmas presents for the family, all the makings for a Christmas dinner and a visit from Santa. The church also provides gift bags for neighbours who reside in local nursing homes, but have no family to provide gifts on Christmas morning.

30-Hour Famine

NBUC's High School youth participate in World Vision's 30-Hour Famine each year. The event creates a regular focus on the challenge of overcoming world poverty and of supporting our brothers and sisters in the struggle for a just world.
